Double-ended needles have points at both ends of the needle which allows them to be used from either end. They have been commonly used to knit smaller "tube-shaped" pieces like sleeves, collars, and socks.
These needles are used in sets of four or five depending on item being made. The double-ended knitting pins in fine sizes have a steel wire core for reinforcement.
The short double ended needles are used for socks, gloves and hats. The longer double ended needles are necessary for adult size sweaters etc.
